THE SEQUEL EFFECT

“THE ONLY REASON EVER TO MAKE A SEQUEL IS TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH THE CHARACTERS THAT PEOPLE LOVE: TO TELL MORE OF THEIR STORY” – Elizabeth Banks

All films begin with an idea. This idea is then workshopped into creating a story – who, what, where, when and why. A story then turns into a script, which is performed by a cast and is then turned into a movie. Most films remain as just the one and allow the audience to make up the rest of the story in their minds, others continue elements of the original story, often with the same characters and settings, in a sequel.

The first half of 2019 saw a long list of original film releases such as All Is True, Brightburn, Never Look Away, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, all of which told a new story. It seems only fitting that the second half of 2019 releases sequels to hit films that have already set the scene, such as Spiderman: Far From Home, Men In Black: International and so much more. Our client Sony Pictures Releasing is doing their part in continuing great stories by releasing sequels, spin-offs and introducing the new generation.
