HOTA, Home of the Arts is set to transform into a mecca of creativity and imagination these school holidays with Kids Take Over from September 27 to October 1. 

Kids Take Over is HOTA’s mini festival of fun, designed to entertain and ignite imaginations of children with 12 events across five jam-packed days.

The program features an array of extraordinary free and ticketed events including workshops, visual arts experiences, immersive performances and more.

Designed by kids for kids, the program is the ultimate memory-maker, boredom-buster, and creative play festival on the Gold Coast these school holidays. 

Embark on a journey of creativity and wonder with Fluffy, an immersive and enchanting experience combining recycled shredded paper with art, physical performance, and interactive storytelling from September 28 to 30 from 10am to 2pm

Fluffy is an extraordinary interactive play environment and wonderland featuring mountains of 200kg of swirling, fluttering paper. Part narrative, part make-your-own adventure, this experience caters to audiences of all ages.

“Creativity knows no bounds, and Kids Take Over is the perfect creative play festival where kids can take charge and unleash their imaginations these school holidays. Kids Take Over  is a place where kids can become the architects of their own adventures while HOTA provides the stage for their artistic expressions,” said HOTA Interim CEO, Mik Auckland.  

Enjoy an energetic, supercharged afternoon show for all ages at Bratz Carnival on September 27. Featuring circus artists and mischief makers from Briefs Factory, this show has been created specially to get youngsters excited about expressing themselves, watch top notch circus superstars and get on stage to have a boogie.

Award-winning and international published author, Brian Falkner, guides young writers in developing and writing stories in the fun and supportive Write Like An Author workshop, suitable for children aged 7 to 14, from September 25-28

Join award-winning children’s performer, Lucas Proudfoot, and a cast of unforgettable characters in a non-stop musical adventure that’s set to be a foot-stomping, rib-tickling, toe-tapping time of your life at the Proudfoot & Friends stage show spectacular from September 28-30

Young budding artists can get ready to dive into the vibrant world of cartoons and unleash their creative potential with renowned artist, Brenton E McKenna, in the Cartooning workshop from September 28-30

On September 25-28, children can unleash and refine their artistic skills across character creation, media and techniques, storyboards and multi-layered artwork in the Draw Like An Artist workshop, led by artist Lucia Masciullo.

Join in the celebration of creativity, friendship and the joy of building with Andrew and Damien from Clicking Bricks for the ultimate Lego Battle: What’s your story? on September 30

Across the Kids Take Over program there are a range of FREE events including The QuestPicnic PartyMini Marketeers, and a special Family Movie Under the Stars on September 29.

With plenty to see and do, HOTA’s Kids Take Over program will be one for the whole family to experience on the second week of school holidays from September 27 to October 1.
