This year, you’ll be able to explore all that shimmers, moves and creeps at GLOW, a wonder filled night-time adventure for the whole family.
The HOTA parklands will transform with interactive artwork, installations and performances from local and international artists, and the precinct will come alive with all kinds of weird and wonderful creatures in a multicoloured landscape of immersive light and sound.

Staged over three nights – Thursday 1st to Saturday 3rd August – the free community festival features interactive artwork, installations and performances that will engage all the senses.
Set against the iconic Surfers Paradise skyline, this year’s theme – Creatures and Colours of the Night – will see local, national and international acts delivering delightful, memorable moments that will be enjoyed by people of all ages.
HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke said GLOW is a must-see winter event that’s loved by locals and visitors.
“We choose a different theme each year at GLOW, and this year the precinct will be brought alive with all kinds of weird and wonderful creatures in a multi coloured landscape of immersive light and sound,” she said.
“As always, GLOW will be visually spectacular, and it’s great to see this annual winter event becoming so embraced by the community – where else on the Gold Coast can you find yourself surrounded by magical lights and sounds with memorable moments everywhere you turn? GLOW is turning into a real highlight of the Coast’s event calendar.”
The stunning centrepiece of GLOW this year will be BOREALIS, by acclaimed Swiss artist Dan Acher. Gold Coasters can experience the Northern Lights from the comfort of their picnic blankets as the glorious colours of the aurora are projected over the Outdoor Stage lawns, accompanied by a stunning soundtrack and the voices from the HOTA Choir.
The dreamlike FierS à Cheval, a spectacular cavalcade of glowing white horses by French spectacle company Compagnie des Quidamns, will delight the crowds as the giant puppet-costume hybrids ride and roam through the night.
From dusk into darkness each night, there will be special performances by roots and blues artist, Mitch King, whose inventive, electrified and acoustic music will captivate audiences under the stars; and YT Dingo will put on a nightly electric live performance featuring a dynamic pack of raw urban rock musicians and multi-formed dancers embracing the GLOW spirit.
Inside the Outdoor Stage, contemporary visual artist Meagan Streader will showcase her new work, commissioned by HOTA. The incredible sculptural and immersive maze of towering structures is made from hundreds of lines of electroluminescent wires.
Mountain by Stalker will take your eyes to the sky with an innovative visual spectacle combining aerial theatre with cutting-edge interactive technology. The performers will meld acrobatics, dance and aerials on a giant performance wall that comes to life with projections and light.
Attendees should prepare to be surprised by The Flash Collective and their disco dalek themed performance, as the dancers emerge from the lake on illuminated row boats and culminate in a flash mob dance performance on land.
And for those who like to get in and amongst it, audiences can sculpt neon wires at the epic light installation, Morphology; and little ones can create neon possum masks and splash on some UV body paint at HOTA’s ArtLab before embracing their inner wild child in the little creatures disco.
Local food trucks and speciality bars ensure that anything from a family outing to a romantic date, or a night out with friends, can be enjoyed at GLOW.
The event runs from 5pm to 9pm across the three nights, with the program staged to deliver amazing experiences across the evening – no matter what time you come you can expect to be entertained by the amazing art and performances.
Major event partner, Robina Town Centre, will also be presenting a GLOW-themed ArtLab event across the July school holidays, where kids can make neon masks to wear at the GLOW FESTIVAL in August.
All this and more will shine and sparkle across three nights at HOTA, Home of the Arts during the GLOW FESTIVAL on August 1-3.
