GOLD COAST’S BEST COMEDY FESTIVAL IS BACK WITH BITE IN 2022

GC Laughs Festival is back and bigger than ever this year, with a hilarious line-up of star-studded comedy shows from March 12 to 20 at HOTA, Home of the Arts.

In its fourth year running, GC Laughs Festival welcomes a roster of homegrown heroes and international comedic acts, with 37 shows across 6 nights this March.

“The world could do with a healthy dose of laughter this year and we’re pleased to present our biggest and best festival yet,” said GC Laughs Festival Director, Josh Armstrong.

“Expect six huge nights of real, raw and unruly comedy this year with a line-up featuring some of the best in the biz landing on the Gold Coast.”

GC Laughs Festival welcomes to the Gold Coast comedy legends Melanie Bracewell, Aaron Chen and Becky Lucas, all performing in HOTA’s largest indoor theatre.

Taking the comedy world by storm at just 26 years old, Melanie Bracewell has won the prestigious ‘Best Newcomer’ award for her first solo show at the NZ International Comedy Festival. With a show full of goofy observations and Melanie’s natural stage charisma, Ooh La La is set to be a showstopper on March 13.

Prepare for a cracker comedy set by Aaron Chen on March 17, with his showIf I Weren’t Filmed, Nobody Would Believe. Based out of Sydney, Aaron has toured nationally in front of sold-out crowds with rave reviews, and a show not to be missed.

Back for another year with her show So Funny!,is Becky Lucas on March 19. Dubbed as an ‘hour of power’ by The Age, this show will have you in stitches with its unceremonious punchlines.

The GC Laughs Gala  is the biggest comedy showcase on the Coast and kicks off the Festival on Saturday, March 12 for the biggest night of comedy on the Gold Coast. Sink your teeth into two hours packed with Festival’s funniest stars and homegrown heroes that will have you howling.

Melanie Bracewell, Cameron James and Michelle Brasier take to the stage on Sunday, March 13, followed by Emma Holland, Aaron Chen, Ivan Aristeguieta, Matt Ford, Dani Cabs and John Cruckshank on Thursday, March 17. 

Then on Friday, March 18 be sure to check out Harley Breen, Dusty Rich, Oliver Twist and Kirsty Webeck, with Blake Freeman, Nick Cody, Kat and Stav Davidson, Shayne Hunter, Becky Lucas, Simon Taylor and David Quirk performingon Saturday, March 19.

Rounding out the festival on Sunday, March 20 is Chris Ryan, Rhys Nicholson and Luke Heggie in back-to-back comedy sets across the night.

As an added bonus, GC Laughs extends to Wednesday, May 11 to showcase Australian absurdist comedy group, Aunty Donna, best known for their Netflix series Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House of Fun.

This 2-hour live show titled The Magical Dead Cat Tour will bring the house down, with new sketches and a few fan favourites from Broden, Zach and Mark, with their rip-roarin’ show and special mystery guest.

“We’ve welcomed over 14,000 comedy fans to HOTA across four years and we hope to see bigger crowds embracing the art of comedy in 2022,” said Josh.
